ECONOMY – The National Council for Industrialization takes action to accelerate Madagascar's industrial transformation

Madagascar intends to position industrialization as a central driver of sustainable economic development, emphasizing wealth and job creation by the private sector. Its Industrial Planning Pact had already identified several strategic sectors, such as agribusiness, mining, textiles and apparel, essential oils and extracts, and the energy industry, upon which this national ambition rests.

This Pact now constitutes “the national roadmap for industrialization,” declared Minister Andrianiaina Rasoarahona. “It sets out the guidelines, investment priorities, institutional organization, financial instruments, and monitoring mechanisms that must guide us in the years to come,” he continued. And it is the National Industrial Development Council (CNIM) that is the body responsible for “ensuring the coordination of actions undertaken by the various structures, guaranteeing the consistency of interventions, ensuring compliance with commitments made, and supporting the acceleration of industrial projects,” stated this member of the Government.

Donatien Kouassi, the African Development Bank's (AfDB) country program manager for Madagascar, expressed optimism. He believes that "industrialization is a crucial step in the country's development process." He added that the National Industrialization Council (CNIM) will have several responsibilities in this regard. "The inclusive nature of this structure, which brings together the relevant ministry, the private sector, civil society, and technical and financial partners, will make it a valuable tool for ensuring the coherence, reform, and effectiveness of their mechanisms," he explained.
